Vancouver Opera: Die Fledermaus
Queen Elizabeth TheatreMarch 05, 2015 7:30 PM
650 Hamilton Street
Vancouver, BC V6B 2P1
Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus (English translation: The Bat) first premiered in Vienna in 1874. It is an operetta in three acts revolving around mistaken identity, sacrifice for love, and, of course, betrayal. The events of the show are sparked when Dr. Eisenstein is preparing to spend a week in jail due to a minor incident and his attorney's incompetence. A series of comic mishaps ensues as he tries to enjoy a ball on his last night of freedom. There have been numerous film adaptations of this remarkable piece, which has a number of classic musical trios, a representing the love triangle at the heart of the show.

Formerly known as Manitoba, Daniel Snaith now goes by the name of Caribou, whose prolific psychedelic and electronic tunes can either move you get on the dance floor, or lounge around with a drink in your hand. His wide-ranging sounds--which have evolved from minimalist electronic beats to incorporating lyrics, as in the Polaris Music Prize-winning album Andorra--bring you to moments of relaxation, or to the depths of psychedelic ecstasy: in sum, perfect for listening on your own, or in a crowded concert.

Committed Relationship? When we say I want a committed relationship, or I dont think Im cut out to be in a committed relationship, what do we mean by that? How do we know we are ready for one, proceed in getting one and prepare ourselves mentally (and quite possibly physically and spiritually,) in receiving one? Our spotlight series continue with a series of discussions revolving around the elusively defined phrase, committed relationship. Each evening discussion is self-contained and independent from one another so you do not need to worry about attending all the discussions. Cant attend in person? You can listen live through livestream at http://livestre.am/523Hz The discussions will be hosted and facilitated by Lawrence and Suling Come join us for casual, safe and hopefully, helpful conversations! March 5th: Fallacies and facts March 12th: Ethos of commitment March 19th: Commitment in practice Sincerely Jonathan
