»Mary Chapin Carpenter & Lunasa

April 28, 2015 7:00 PM

Mary Chapin Carpenter is an award winning rock/country singer and songwriter. Throughout her career critics have struggled to pin down exactly what style Mary encapsulates. Her music has flavors from country, folk, and rock stylings, but she seems to always fall more into the country category. Regardless of categorization, the music is smooth and melodic, often heavy and worth seeing.

»Sufjan Stevens

April 28, 2015 8:00 PM

Born in Detroit, Michigan, singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sufjan Stevens attended the prestigious Interlochen Arts Academy before going on to earn a master of fine arts degree from The New School in New York City.Writing characteristically emotive folk songs, Stevens released his debut LP, A Sun Came, in 2000. Though the album helped introduce Stevens to niche of attuned music followers, as time wore on and he released conceptual albums like2001's Enjoy Your Rabbit, 2003's Michigan and 2005's Illinois, Stevens would go on to solidify his standing as one of his generation's more intelligent and capable songwriters.Filling his music with lofty themes about life, death and theological beliefs, Stevens has been praised for his heady lyrics and unique approach to composition. Evolving his sound with 2010's The Age of Adz, the album marked somewhat of a stylistic change for Stevens as the LP featured prominent use of electronics and production values.
