»Cole Land Transportation Museum

Located on Perry Road, Cole Land Transport Museum is named for its founder Galen Cole, a veteran philanthropist born and raised in Bangor. The museum features interesting displays and exhibits that chronicle the history and progress of transport in the state of Maine. There are over four sections in the museum site, including Farm Place that covers the development of farming equipment like tractors, the Fire Engine Lane displays various railroad exhibits, Snowplow Alley covers technical advances in snow-managing and clearing equipment whereas the Motorcycle and Bicycle section features interesting bikes on display. Open between May and November, the Cole Land Transport Museum makes for an enlightening visit.

Maine Discovery Museum, located on Main Street in Downtown Bangor is one of the largest museums for children in the country. Established in 2001, the place features several exhibits that give an interesting insight into how things work. A great place to learn while having fun, Maine Discovery Museum boasts of great, interactive displays, simulators along with many toys and playthings that the kids can handle and use by themselves. There is a snack room and many vending machines located on site where you can load up on healthy snacks and juices instead of unhealthy munches. The Maine Discovery Museum warrants a visit if you are visiting Bangor with the little ones.

The University Of Maine Museum Of Art (UMMA )enjoys its downtown location in Bangor, and is housed in a gorgeous brown building. The entire space can be hired for private events between 5pm and 10pm. Their outreach programs include educative and fun workshops like photography, watercolor & acrylic painting, glass fusion etc for children and adults alike, thus promoting an artistic climate and engaging everyone in art. In its new avatar, the Hudson Museum proudly flaunts floor-to-ceiling exhibits thus making effective use of space. Housed inside a warm brick building with a stylish glass entrance, the permanent exhibits within are even better. Tracing the rich history of Maine, all displays are well-presented. A 9000 sq. ft. space with 3 galleries (Minsky Culture Lab, Merritt Gallery and the Maine Indian Gallery) can be rented by organizations and individuals. And those who are into Native Indian culture should not miss out on the wigwam which was built over a period of 3 days.
