Set in New York City in the 1940s, the Tony award-winning musical Guys and Dolls follows the criminal activities of a group of professional gamblers. Originally directed by George Kaufman, Guys and Dolls debuted in 1950 and won the Tony for best musical the following year. By 1955, the story had been adapted to the iconic film version, starring Vivian Blaine, who also performed in the original musical along with Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons and Frank Sinatra.
The Moscow Ballet prides itself on bringing its talent to an international audience with its annual North American and the Great Russian Nutcracker tours. As the largest Russian ballet tour in North America, the Moscow Ballet's Great Russian Nutcracker show averages 100 performances during the holiday months of November and December, stopping in major cities such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit, Dallas, Baltimore and Chicago. The company engages the local communities of international cities by offering up to 60 children a chance to join Moscow Ballet dancers on stage and perform in walk-on roles. In addition to the Great Russian Nutcracker, the Moscow Ballet presents major narrative ballets during it tours including Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet and quite possibly the most famous Russian ballet Swan Lake.
