»Fully Committed

December 26, 2014 7:30 PM

Steven Burge reprises his award-winning tour-de-force performance as a cast of over 30 characters in the acclaimed one-man show "Fully Committed", which was named one of "Time" magazine's top ten plays of 2000. In this wry, witty show, Sam is an out-of-work actor manning the phones of a five-star Manhattan restaurant. When not placating his celebrity chef boss, Sam has to fend off a nonstop parade of desperate callers (socialites, glitterati, pushy tourists, cranky senior citizens and the occasional mafioso) who will stop at nothing to land a prime reservation. Tired of the constant barrage, Sam decides to change his circumstances for the better and begins accepting bribes for "giving good table." For Steven Burge's turn as the entire zany cast, "The Denver Post" called him "one of the most fearless comic actors in town," and gave "Fully Committed" the 2009 Ovation Award for Best Solo Performance.

»Traveling the Silk Road

December 26, 2014

The Silk Road, a prehistoric trade route, connected the most advanced cities of the time since 500 BCE. It extended over 4,600 miles from China through Central Asia to the Middle East and ended in the ancient Roman Empire. Exotic spices, silk and all kinds of goods weren't the only things exchanged on this road - new ideas and advancements were transposed as well. The exhibit Traveling the Silk Road showcases the journeys merchants went on and how this trading route changed many cultures and their understanding of each other.

»Zoo Lights

December 26, 2014 5:30 PM

This outing at the Denver Zoo is an annual event covering the month of December. Thousands of lights illuminate a path around the zoo and lighted sculptures of animals, many sequenced to make the animals appear to move. Storytelling, carolers and Santa Claus will make an appearance, but only through Christmas. Roasted chestnuts, traditional kettle corn, hot chocolate and hot cider warm the crowds. Large crowds flock to the festivities, especially on mild evenings and weekends, but the lines move quickly.

»An Improvised Christmas Carol

December 26, 2014 8:00 PM

Did you ever wonder where Scrooge worked? Or what was for dinner at the Cratchit house? Well, you'll be able to help solve those questions during the fast-paced and funny "An Improvised Christmas Carol", where Charles Dickens' classic holiday tale gets turned on its ear. The audience controls and decides the entire story, so if you want to say that Tiny Tim has chicken pox and the Ghost of Christmas Past has a lisp, you can make that happen! Each night is an entirely different, and twisted, new version of this old favorite. Bring the family and have a blast creating your own Xmas classic!

Boombox is the duo of beat-maker Russ Randolf and guitarist/singer Zion Rock Godchaux. When playing live the pair will often jam out on segments of a tune and work extremely hard to make it seem as though the set is just endlessly flowing from song to song--the band calls this process putting on a "longball" show. Visions of Backbeat, the group's debut record, was released in 2005 and is full of psychedelic disco melodies that are accompanied at live performances by light shows and live painters.
