»Traveling the Silk Road

March 29, 2015

The Silk Road, a prehistoric trade route, connected the most advanced cities of the time since 500 BCE. It extended over 4,600 miles from China through Central Asia to the Middle East and ended in the ancient Roman Empire. Exotic spices, silk and all kinds of goods weren't the only things exchanged on this road - new ideas and advancements were transposed as well. The exhibit Traveling the Silk Road showcases the journeys merchants went on and how this trading route changed many cultures and their understanding of each other.

»Ain't Misbehavin'

March 29, 2015 2:30 PM

Take a trip back in time to the golden age of jazz, when hot spots like the Cotton Club featured the best acts from Harlem and swing music was just starting to infuse the country with renewed energy. The Tony Award-winning "Ain't Misbehavin'" is a song-filled celebration of the timeless music of Thomas "Fats" Waller, who penned more than 400 songs during his career -- including "I Can't Give You Anything but Love," "Squeeze Me" and "Ain't Misbehavin'." The talented and energetic cast at Aurora's Vintage Theatre brings down the house with Waller's rowdy, raunchy and humorous songs that capture the mood of the '30s and reflect the composer's view of life as a journey meant for pleasure and play.

»Six Dance Lessons In Six Weeks

March 29, 2015 2:30 PM

You can't just waltz into someone's heart -- sometimes you have to swing, foxtrot and cha-cha your way there. That's one of the many insights at the core of "Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks", the beloved comedy drama. Lily Harrison, a Baptist minister's widow, hires acerbic dance instructor Michael Minetti to teach her how to dance. But after a series of initial clashes, the two take on a different subject entirely: learning each other's innermost secrets, fears and desires. Written by Richard Alfieri ("The Sisters", "Starstruck"), this warm and intimate tale shows what happens when two people overcome their outward differences and discover an unlikely, but profound, connection. Now "Six Dance Lessons in Six Weeks" comes to Vintage Theatre in a fresh and illuminating production from director Craig A. Bond.

Bad Religion is a modern American punk band credited with reviving the genre and influencing other bands with a sophisticated sound and elevated lyrics. The Los Angeles-based band released most of its records on guitarist's Brett Gurewitz's label, Epitaph Records. Bad Religion's first taste of commercial success came with its 1994 studio album Stranger Than Fiction, which it released with Atlantic Records.
