Arts & Museums
Learn the human story of Albany and Southwest Georgia while at this center that includes a local and regional history and heritage museum, a science discovery center with hands-on exhibits, and the only planetarium in Southwest Georgia that is open to the public.
Located in the former Mount Zion Baptist Church which was the site of civil rights mass meetings in the early 1960s, this museum details the civil rights struggle through oral histories, photographs, documents, and artifacts.
The Albany Museum of Art was established in the 1960s era. From its former location, an abandoned mill to its current location on Meadowlark Drive, the museum has certainly come a long way. It chronicles works of artists mainly from America, Europe and Africa. And, it also has interactive exhibits that allow you to dabble in art and be creative. Apart from that, workshops, temporary exhibitions and special events are a regular feature here.
