The Children's Fine Arts Series was started as a fund raiser for the Judson Montessori School. It later transformed itself into a non-profit organization to promote art and culture among students and more specifically, children. This theater has over the years churned out dramatic performances for one and all to enjoy. They also organize training sessions in music, dance and drama for children, thus giving them an opportunity to explore their hidden talents. Call ahead or check website for more details.
St Mary's University goes beyond merely educating and aims at all-rounded development of it's students. This complete and grand university campus features students center and two full fledged libraries. The St. Mary's University Alumni Athletics & Convocation Center is the activity hub of this college and houses Bill Greehey Arena—a venue for events. The university is home to the Athletics Booster Club that deals with the athletic and sports programs.
Located in the Medical Center area, University Hospital is a premium health care system. Level 1 trauma center, newborn intensive care unit, transplant and cardiac programs, pediatric cardiac care are the services available here. The hospital is also the primary teaching facility for The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.
Located on the campus of St. Mary's University, Bill Greehey Arena is home to its men and women sports team, Rattlers. This 135,000 square foot facility is capable of seating 3,500 people. It features various amenities, some of which are an indoor running track, natatorium, training rooms, six tennis courts, racquetball courts and much more. A fiery seat of sports activities, Bill Greehey Arena is not to be missed when in San Antonio.
In 1988, a welcoming community of believers in San Antonio established The Church in San Antonio. It aims to go beyond just being a place of worship to being a meeting place for its diverse community. Beyond the traditional worship services, the church organizes numerous events and meetings. Representing professional remodeling contractors, as well as home improvement product manufacturers, distributors, wholesalers, trade and consumer publications, utilities and lending institutions, NARI stands as the spokesgroup of the remodeling industry and as an ally to the nation's homeowners.
The city's oldest synagogue, the congregation of this Reform Jewish temple began meeting around the 1850s, but wasn't formally chartered until 1874. The congregation adheres to the three-fold function of Judaism (worship, education and fellowship) with popular programs designed to serve all age groups. A founding member of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations (UAHC), the temple serves over 1,250 families from all around the city. Tot Shabbat services for families with children younger than six are held on Fridays. Junior Congregation services for youth in grades one-four are held on Fridays following Tot Shabbat.
Time Magazine has referred to Trinity Baptist Church as "The Boom Church" because it is one of America's fastest-growing churches. Its humble beginnings date back some 50 years to 1949, when a small group of Christians gathered with a vision of creating a church in Laurel Heights. Today, the congregation exceeds 8,000 members. The church is led by world-renowned evangelist Dr. Buckner Fanning. Billy Graham calls Dr. Fanning "the ideal pastor...a pastor evangelist whom God has greatly used." The church offers two identical worship services on Sunday mornings, one at 8a and the other at 11a. Bible study takes place in between the two services at 10a.
Temple Chai is a Reform synagogue serving the spiritual and religious needs of the Jewish community in San Antonio. Rabbi Komerofsky leads Shabbat worship on two Fridays and also adult education programs once every Saturday. The church is home to a vibrant congregation and welcomes all people, regardless of their ethnic and/or social backgrounds.
